Sprague Lake at Rocky Mountain National Park is one of my favorite approved ceremony locations. Sprague Lake offers beautiful mountain and lake views. It is only 7 miles from Beaver Meadows Visitor Center, making it extremely easy to get in and out.

How to have a Sprague Lake wedding or elopement
Getting a permit for a Sprague Lake wedding
- Email romo_fees_permits@nps.gov to inquire about your date and availability.
- Fill out an application, application found here and pay your $300 non-refundable booking fee.
- Send completed application to the above email.
- Sign and print your completed permit. You must have your permit with you at all times.
How to get to Sprague Lake
Sprague Lake is 7 miles from the Beaver Creek Meadows entrance. It is off of Bear Lake Road and will take you about 15 minutes to access the parking lot from the toll booth. The parking lot at Sprague Lake is bigger than other ceremony sites, so finding parking is easier. But this location is extremely busy and the lot can fill up, especially on weekends!
What is the best time for a Sprague Lake wedding?
As with all locations in RMNP, Sprague Lake can be busy on the weekends. For that reason, I highly recommend eloping or reserving for a weekday or aiming for a sunrise reservation! The approved ceremony site for Sprague Lake is on the main deck, which is very heavily trafficked (like Lily Lake) This spot looks absolutely gorgeous at sunrise or the hour before sunset. There is not much shade so the lighting can be quite harsh during the day.
How accessible is Sprague Lake?
The walk to the dock at Sprague Lake is very flat with no elevation gain. The walk is about .5 miles and takes about 5-10 minutes to walk there. Wheelchairs and strollers might have some issues though.
Is Sprague Lake a private elopement spot?
Sprague Lake is one of the more out in the open elopement locations. There will likely be foot traffic happening behind you during your ceremony. But since you are on a dock right up against the lake, there will likely be no one in front of you and thus not in your photos. People are usually super respectful about giving you your space when they clearly see that a wedding is taking place.

Weddings for 2022
May-October 60 permits per month will be issued.
November – April 40 permits per month will be issued.
As of June 1, 2021, Rocky Mountain National Park will resume issuing permits a year in advance on that wedding month. (Ex: October 2021 you can be issued your October 2022 permit).
If you are wanting to elope at RMNP I highly recommend getting your permit as soon as possible. The number of permits is extremely limited and they will go quickly.
