Here are some of my top tips for a perfect Colorado proposal.
Location is Key: The breathtaking landscapes of Colorado offer a plethora of amazing proposal spots. Consider your partner's preferences and choose a location that is significant to your relationship. Whether it's a stunning mountain peak, a tranquil lakeside setting, or a charming small town, Colorado has it all. I'll send over my exclusive location guide after booking with over 75 locations throughout the state of Colorado.
Timing is Everything: While the timing of your proposal is a personal choice, it's worth considering the seasons and weather conditions in Colorado. If you're planning an outdoor proposal, keep in mind that winters can be cold and snowy, while summers can get quite hot. Spring and fall offer milder weather and beautiful colors, which can make for a romantic backdrop. Whatever season you choose, make sure to check the forecast and plan accordingly.
Plan an Activity: Colorado is an adventure lover's paradise, so why not incorporate some excitement into your proposal? Whether it's skiing down a mountain together, going on a hot air balloon ride at sunrise, or taking a romantic hike to a scenic viewpoint, planning an activity can add an extra element of surprise and make your proposal even more memorable.
Personalize the Moment: Adding personal touches to your proposal can make it truly unique and special. Consider incorporating elements that reflect your relationship, such as your favorite song, a meaningful quote, or a shared memory. You could also surprise your partner with a heartfelt letter or a small gift that holds significance. These personalized details will show just how much thought and love went into planning the proposal.
Colorado temperatures vary greatly from season to season (and even day to day!!) Here are some weather related tips for your Colorado proposal.
Summer is one of my favorite times to photograph in Colorado because the weather is so predictable. You can expect warmer temperatures and typically a quick afternoon shower. Wildflowers happen a little later than most states– if you want maximum colorado summer is the best month!
Spring can be colder than you might think! Especially if you're wanting to go into the mountains. And there might not be as many flowers and fauna since it takes longer for the winter ice to melt.
Fall has the most gorgeous colors, but it comes and goes quickly! Fall is my favorite season in Colorado. The orange and yellow leaves are absolutely magical. But Fall can come and go quickly. Sometimes those gorgeous leaves only last a week.
Winter can be freezing or mild. Winter in Colorado is always a toss up. It can be frigid or mild. Always plan for it being cold. (Layers, proper transportation, etc.)
my take...
Any season in Colorado is great! My biggest piece of advice is to plan for a weekday, otherwise locations will be packed! If you want maximum greenery and color, go with June. If you want fall foliage, September or early October is usually a safe bet.
WHAT IF I NEED TO RESCHEDULE?
I understand life happens! But in fairness to other clients I do ask for 48 hours notice if you need to reschedule. When I schedule sessions I am turning down other potential clients, so please be courteous of my time and I will do the same with yours!
For rescheduling I offer a one time complimentary rescheduling if 48 hours notice is given. The retainer you paid upon booking will then transfer over to another date that works for us both! If you need to reschedule a second time a second retainer will be required to book your new date.
DO YOU RESCHEDULE IF IT RAINS?
Yes. But because the weather changes so quickly (hello Colorado) I like to reschedule as late as possible without inconveniencing you. Every month I have a few blocked off "bad weather days". If there's another open date that works for us both we can definitely move it then, free of charge.
I do also have several indoor locations if you don't want to reschedule!
I don't reschedule for temperature, (too hot/too cold), so make sure you dress accordingly!
WHEN AND HOW ARE OUR PHOTOS DELIVERED?
After your session I get to work on culling (going through and eliminating any blurry or unflattering shots) and color grading. In two weeks you will receive a link to your online gallery (size dependent on session time). The images are full resolution, unwatermarked files. Prints are available for purchase.
Expedited delivery is available! A one week turnaround is available for a fee of $50, every additional day is an extra $10.
WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?
I am located in Broomfield, just 20 minutes north of Denver. I offer complimentary travel if your session location is within 40 miles of 80020. Outside of that 40 mile radius there is a $100/hr travel fee.
WHAT IS YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY STYLE?
I love warm colors, so I love shooting at golden hour right before the sun sets. I love authentic moments— families laughing or couples being goofy- those are the moments I want to capture. I want you to look back on your photos years from now and have them be timeless, genuine, and true to that point in your life.
WHAT IS THE BEST TIME FOR A PHOTOSHOOT?
It really depends on the look you're wanting and the location you choose! For romantic, golden, glowy photos you'll want to shoot at golden hour, this is typically the hour or two leading up to sunset. The light during this time is super flattering!
If you're shooting indoors, the optimal time will depend on if the windows are facing East or West (morning or evening light).
My booking calendars are set for early morning and evening shoots, but if you're doing an indoor session or want a more editorial, direct light look send me a message and I can adjust the booking window for you manually!
I'M NERVOUS! HOW CAN WE ENSURE THIS GOES SMOOTHLY?
I believe the best thing to reduce stress on proposal days is to be overly prepared. I recommend 5-10 different locations that are all especially suited for proposals. I recommend scheduling a call to go over all the details to ensure we're on the same page.
