A guide to having a Limelight Hotel Denver wedding

As a Colorado wedding photographer, I’ve photographed numerous downtown Denver hotel wedding venues, but I was shocked at how much I loved Limelight. Nestled in the heart of Denver’s bustling LoDo District, this modern and stylish venue offers a chic backdrop for couples looking to create a memorable wedding day. Whether you’re planning an intimate gathering or a grand celebration, Limelight is a versatile venue with a unique vibe that sets it apart from others in the area.

If you’re considering this venue for your wedding, here’s everything you need to know—from pricing and capacity to pros and cons—straight from the lens of a local wedding photographer.

Venue Overview: A Perfect Blend of Elegance and Urban Cool

Limelight Hotel Denver stands out for its stylish mix of contemporary design and mountain-chic elegance. From its sleek interiors to its rooftop terrace with breathtaking city views, the venue offers a variety of options to suit your wedding day vision.

This modern space features both indoor and outdoor areas, making it ideal for couples who want to combine Denver’s urban energy with the beauty of Colorado’s landscape.

Pricing: What to Expect

Weddings at Limelight Hotel Denver are an investment in a high-end, urban experience. While prices can vary based on the time of year, guest count, and specific event needs, here’s a general breakdown:

  • Venue Rental: $5,000 – $10,000 depending on the season and the space you choose. The larger spaces and peak wedding season (late spring to early fall) will be on the higher end of that range.
  • Catering: The hotel offers in-house catering with options that can range from plated meals to buffets. Expect prices starting around $100 per person for a basic package, with costs increasing based on the complexity of the menu and drink options.
  • Bar Service: A full bar package typically starts at around $30 per person for a 4-hour open bar, which can vary depending on the level of service and drink selections.
  • Additional Costs: Other fees to consider include décor, lighting, and any entertainment or additional rental items you may need.

Given the stylish and high-quality experience, the pricing is in line with other premium Denver venues.

Capacity: The Perfect Size for Your Celebration

Limelight Hotel Denver is ideal for mid-sized weddings, but it also has flexibility for both smaller and larger events:

  • Indoor Ceremony & Reception: The hotel’s indoor spaces can comfortably accommodate 80-200 guests. The elegant ballroom features ample natural light and a chic vibe, perfect for couples who want a sleek, modern backdrop for their ceremony and reception.
  • Outdoor Space: Limelight’s rooftop terrace offers stunning views of downtown Denver and the surrounding Rocky Mountains. It’s an ideal spot for ceremonies or cocktail hours, and it can host around 50-100 guests depending on your configuration.
  • Micro Weddings & Elopements: If you’re planning a smaller, more intimate gathering, the venue also has smaller, private spaces perfect for a ceremony with close friends and family. Many couples opt for a rooftop ceremony with a small reception afterward in one of the venue’s smaller indoor spaces.

Pros of Choosing Limelight Hotel Denver

  1. Stunning Views: As a photographer, I can tell you that the Limelight’s rooftop views are a game-changer. The backdrop of downtown Denver and the distant Rocky Mountains adds that perfect touch of magic to wedding photos.
  2. Urban Location: Being located in Denver’s LoDo District means your wedding guests can easily access the best that the city has to offer—from trendy bars and restaurants to charming shops and galleries. It also provides a sleek, city-chic vibe for couples who love modern aesthetics.
  3. Modern & Stylish Atmosphere: The venue’s interior features a modern design with neutral tones, which makes it easy to customize and adapt to your wedding theme, whether it’s minimalist, boho, or traditional.
  4. All-In-One Location: With its ceremony, reception, and cocktail hour spaces, as well as its in-house catering and event planning teams, Limelight provides everything you need under one roof, making wedding planning more seamless.
  5. Experienced Event Team: The team at Limelight Hotel is professional and experienced in handling weddings. They are attentive to details and work with you to bring your vision to life, making sure that everything runs smoothly on your big day.

Cons of Limelight Hotel Denver

  1. Cost: Limelight is a premium venue, which means it comes with a higher price tag than some other Denver options. While you get excellent service and a beautiful location, it may not be ideal for couples on a tight budget.
  2. Parking: Like many downtown venues, parking can be a challenge. While the hotel offers valet services, your guests will likely need to find parking in nearby garages or on the street. It’s something to consider when planning guest logistics, especially for a larger wedding.
  3. Limited Outdoor Space: While the rooftop terrace is absolutely stunning, the outdoor spaces are somewhat limited in size, so it may not work as well for larger weddings looking to host a ceremony or reception entirely outdoors. The weather can also be a factor—Denver is known for its unpredictable weather, so having an indoor backup plan is a must.
  4. Not Fully Secluded: If you’re looking for a completely private, secluded wedding experience, Limelight might not be the right fit. Being in a bustling downtown location means there will be street traffic and foot traffic near the venue, which can take away from the exclusivity you might expect from other more remote venues.

Now that we’ve covered the logistics, let’s get into the fun stuff—the venue itself!

Exterior

The Venue at Crooked Willow Farms is truly stunning, with its gorgeous bright red exterior– it’s giving barn but in an upscale and modern way. The grounds are well manicured with tons of different backdrops for photos, from the open meadow to small pond, this venue is 10/10 for it’s picturesque vibes.

Getting Ready

The getting ready suites at Crooked Willow Farms are super spacious. One getting ready suite is especially bright and airy with two connecting rooms and tons of natural light. The other suite is a bit moodier with leather and brass finishes. Both are conveniently located for ease and movement the morning of your big day.

Ceremony

Ceremonies are usually held on the outdoor meadow, weather permitting. This offers a gorgeous mountain view in the distance and is perfect for large or small gatherings. You can enter from the barn to the right for an epic entrance down the stairs if you’re looking for all the drama.

Cocktail Hour

Cocktail hour is held outdoors in front of the dining hall. You can also use the indoor space where there’s another bar, in the event of inclement weather. There is plenty of space for a full bar and a variety of standing and seating room. It is right near the main parking and road, so you will have some traffic and cars going by.

Photo Locations

There are SO many locations for photos, depending on time you can get epic views of the Flatirons and even drive up Flagstaff mountain for an epic overlook. However, if you want to stay close by, the lawn is a gorgeous spot for photos. Some of my favorite photos were in and around the cottages.

Reception

The reception space is in a large tented space which provides a perfect backdrop for a myriad of decor choices. There is ample room for several larger tables as shown below and tons of natural light. Most couples will do toasts and cake cutting in this space and then venture into the adjacent room for special dancing and open dancing.

Dancing

There is a ton of room for open dancing in the room off of the tented reception space. There is a large stone fireplace and lots of cool, rustic decor that has a very quintessential Colorado feel.

Emely and John’s September Wedding at Limelight Hotel Denver

If you’d like to view what a wedding day looks like, check out this gorgeous September wedding.

Getting Ready

Getting ready at Limelight is a breeze since you and your guests can rent out hotel blocks. Emely chose to get ready in one of the suites, while John finished getting ready in the Board Room. Both spaces had tons of natural light and plenty of room to spread out.

I began the day with getting ready photos, Emely had a beautiful invitation suite that reflected her cool disco themed vibe.

My second photographer photographed John getting ready– he helped Bear (their adorable Frenchie) into his bow tie and then had a sweet first look with his parents.

Meanwhile Emely’s hair and makeup wrapped and we did a first look with her dad.

First Look and Private Vows

One of my favorite parts of the day was Emely and John’s first look overlooking the Union Station railroad. And they didn’t just do a first look with each other, they also did one with Bear, which was absolutely precious! (If you’re looking for some tips on how to include your pup on your wedding day, check out this blog post!) The couple then read private vows (a great idea if you’re more private or have nerves about reading in front of your guests).

Portraits Around Union Station

After vows, we wandered around Union Station for photos. This spot is such an iconic Denver backdrop, it really makes a wonderful location for photos. (I did have to edit how a ton of people from the backgrounds, but it was worth it I think!)

Wedding Party

After portraits, we met up with our wedding party. This was such a fun and sweet group of folks.

I absolutely loved Emely’s choice of bridesmaid dresses, they were a seafoam-y green and really made her vibrant floral bouquets stand out!

Ceremony

Time for ceremony! This was one of the shortest ceremonies I’ve ever photographed (largely because the couple had already read their vows). But it was full of laughs and sweet moments. And their officiant was John’s cousin! I love when couples choose and officiant that knows them, it makes everything so much more personal and heartfelt.

Sunset Portraits on the Roof

During cocktail hour we snuck out for about 10 minutes of sunset portraits– on the roof! I was so excited when the venue coordinator told me that we would get to use the roof space. I believe this is an add-on option, since it did require two people from the hotel to escort us, but it was so worth it! It was incredible to take photos with the Denver skyline in the background.

Reception

Time for reception! The couple chose to forgo any grand entrance, which meant the evening started out relaxed and stress-free. We began with dinner and then moved onto toasts and a few special dances. The couple opted out of dancing coverage, so my night ended early after just a few open dancing photos!
