Downtown Denver is one of my favorite places to take engagement photos. I just love the architecture and feel of the area. It is even more magical at Christmastime.

I met Marina in a Facebook group for people that watched the Bachelorette (lol) I had posted that I was moving to Denver and desperately needed friends (also lol). I had so much fun walking around the city with her and Jon.

Some tips for planning your downtown Denver engagement session

  1. Decide on your vibe. Are you going fancy or casual? Or do you want to do a mix of both? Need help with what to wear? Here’s a post on what to wear for your engagement session.
  2. If you’re nervous about having your photos taken, consider planning an activity. For all my clients that express anxiety before their session, I help plan some sort of activity to loosen them up and feel more at ease. I’ve done photoshoots at bowling alleys, bars, coffee shops, etc. I’ve taken photos of couples with their dogs, having a picnic, reading a book together, etc. The activity helps you relax and just enjoy each other.
  3. If you’re bringing your dog, make sure to bring a “doggie handler”. I am all for bringing your pups to your session, but I highly recommend bringing a family or friend to help out. Not only will they help get their attention for photos but they can also take them off our hands so not all photos have them included.
  4. Dress for the weather and the terrain. Make sure to check the forecast ahead of time and plan accordingly! If you’re freezing, that will show in photos! And if you’re planning a session with a lot of walking or difficult terrain, make sure you wear comfy shoes!
  5. Arrive early! I always encourage my couples to arrive a little early. You should always account for parking and traffic. And nothing throws off a session like couples arguing about being late or stressed beforehand. Give yourself plenty of time so you can relax and chill before your shoot starts!
