A guide to having a Sanctuary Golf Course wedding

As a Colorado wedding photographer, I’ve photographed numerous Colorado wedding venues, but I was shocked at how much I loved Sanctuary Golf Course. If you’re dreaming of a wedding with scenic mountain views, lush greenery, and an elegant, yet relaxed atmosphere, Sanctuary Golf Course in Littleton, Colorado, might be on your radar. But, like any venue, it has its pros and cons. Here’s a breakdown to help you decide if it’s the right choice for your big day!

First, Let’s Talk Numbers: Pricing, Capacity and other Details

  • Capacity: Sanctuary Golf Course can host up to 200 guests. So whether you’re dreaming of an intimate affair or a more grand celebration, there’s space for everyone to mix, mingle, and party the night away.

Peak season (May-October) weekend rates start at around $11,000 with an $11,500 food and beverage minimum, while off-peak prices can dip closer to $9,000 with a $6,000 food and beverage minimum. What Makes Sanctuary Golf Course a Knockout Venue?

I could write all day about Sanctuary Golf Course, but for your sake (and mine), let’s break it down into a few key highlights:

1. Breathtaking Views

This is, without a doubt, one of the biggest draws for couples. The golf course is surrounded by rolling hills and stunning views of the foothills and the Rocky Mountains. The ceremony site, located on the lawn near the clubhouse, offers a panoramic backdrop that’s perfect for wedding photos. As a photographer, I love how the natural surroundings make for gorgeous lighting and help create timeless images.

2. Elegant and Versatile Spaces

The clubhouse is both elegant and versatile, with floor-to-ceiling windows that let in natural light and allow guests to enjoy the beautiful scenery inside. The interior is sophisticated yet welcoming, with a modern feel that still feels cozy and intimate. The main event space is spacious enough to accommodate large weddings, but it also has areas that feel more intimate for smaller gatherings.

3. Dedicated Event Coordinators

Sanctuary Golf Course offers professional event coordinators who are incredibly helpful in making your wedding day run smoothly. From the planning stages to the last dance, the team here is dedicated to helping you stay on track and ensure everything goes as planned. As a photographer, it’s always a relief to work with venues where the staff is organized and proactive.

4. Ample Outdoor Space for Cocktail Hour & Photos

After your ceremony, you and your guests can enjoy cocktail hour outside on the patio or around the golf course, all while soaking in the views. There’s plenty of outdoor space for taking wedding portraits, group shots, and even intimate couple photos. The lush greenery and natural light make for some of the most flattering and dreamy images I’ve had the privilege of capturing.

5. Excellent Food and Beverage Options

Sanctuary Golf Course offers a variety of catering options, from plated meals to buffet-style dining. Their in-house catering team is highly regarded, and many couples rave about the quality and presentation of the food. Having worked at venues with subpar food, I can honestly say that a well-fed and happy wedding party can make a huge difference in the atmosphere of the day.

But No Venue Is Perfect… Let’s Talk Cons

While I’m a big fan of Sanctuary Golf Course, there are a few things to consider before locking in your date:

1. Higher Price Point

Sanctuary Golf Course is on the higher end of wedding venue pricing in the Denver area. Expect to pay anywhere from $6,000 to $14,000 for venue rental, depending on the season, day of the week, and package chosen. This doesn’t include additional costs like catering, decor, or alcohol, so it’s important to budget accordingly.

While the setting is gorgeous and the service is excellent, it might be out of reach for couples with a smaller budget. If you’re planning a more intimate, low-cost wedding, you may want to explore other options in the area. Check out this roundup of affordable wedding venues!

2. Limited Flexibility for Outside Vendors

Sanctuary does require approval of vendors, though in my experience they are very accommodating and just wanting to vet folks for the best experience of their clients. However, this does limit your choices slightly. Especially when it comes to catering– that is all in house. So if you were planning on bringing in outside catering, Sanctuary might not be the venue for you.

3. Lighting is Tricky in the Covered Pavillion – Hire an Experienced Photographer!

When looking for a wedding photographer, make sure they have ample experience with difficult lighting situations. The covered pavillion, where most ceremonies are held, is quite dark, which means the gorgeous mountain view can be blown out in photos if you don’t have an experienced photographer. I bring a substantial lighting setup to ensure that your photos look just as stunning as they did in real life.

My Final Verdict

Sanctuary Golf Course is an incredible option for couples who want a stunning, natural backdrop combined with exceptional service and amenities. If you’re looking for a place that offers breathtaking views, beautiful event spaces, and top-notch food and drink options, this is a venue worth considering.

However, if you’re working within a tighter budget or prefer more flexibility with your vendor choices, it might not be the best fit. Overall, it’s a fantastic choice for those willing to invest in a top-tier experience and looking to get married in one of Colorado’s most picturesque settings.

If you have any specific questions about Sanctuary Golf Course or would like recommendations for other venues in Colorado, don’t hesitate to reach out. I’d be happy to help you navigate your wedding plans!

Exterior

The Venue at Crooked Willow Farms is truly stunning, with its gorgeous bright red exterior– it’s giving barn but in an upscale and modern way. The grounds are well manicured with tons of different backdrops for photos, from the open meadow to small pond, this venue is 10/10 for it’s picturesque vibes.

Getting Ready

The getting ready suites at Crooked Willow Farms are super spacious. One getting ready suite is especially bright and airy with two connecting rooms and tons of natural light. The other suite is a bit moodier with leather and brass finishes. Both are conveniently located for ease and movement the morning of your big day.

Ceremony

Ceremonies are usually held on the outdoor meadow, weather permitting. This offers a gorgeous mountain view in the distance and is perfect for large or small gatherings. You can enter from the barn to the right for an epic entrance down the stairs if you’re looking for all the drama.

Cocktail Hour

Cocktail hour is held outdoors in front of the dining hall. You can also use the indoor space where there’s another bar, in the event of inclement weather. There is plenty of space for a full bar and a variety of standing and seating room. It is right near the main parking and road, so you will have some traffic and cars going by.

Photo Locations

There are SO many locations for photos, depending on time you can get epic views of the Flatirons and even drive up Flagstaff mountain for an epic overlook. However, if you want to stay close by, the lawn is a gorgeous spot for photos. Some of my favorite photos were in and around the cottages.

Reception

The reception space is in a large tented space which provides a perfect backdrop for a myriad of decor choices. There is ample room for several larger tables as shown below and tons of natural light. Most couples will do toasts and cake cutting in this space and then venture into the adjacent room for special dancing and open dancing.

Dancing

There is a ton of room for open dancing in the room off of the tented reception space. There is a large stone fireplace and lots of cool, rustic decor that has a very quintessential Colorado feel.

Megan and Brett’s wedding day at Sanctuary Golf Course was one of my favorites of the year. They chose to have a first look in the gorgeous covered walkway, which was private and hidden from arriving guests.

Their ceremony was short and sweet with intimate personalized vows. They had a lovely wedding party that were so sweet and welcoming.

One of my favorite touches from their wedding day was a dessert table of homemade cookies and treats.
