Twin Lakes Wedding and Elopement Guide
Are you thinking about having a Twin Lakes wedding? If so, congratulations– Twin Lakes is one of the most beautiful places in Colorado!
Twin Lakes Colorado is a gorgeous mountain town about 2.5 hours outside Denver, 1 hour from Aspen and 30 minutes from Buena Vista. Twin Lakes is off Hwy 24 and in between Leadville and Buena Vista. The town gets its name from the two stunning lakes that sit at the base of mountains, the lakes are Colorado’s largest glacial lakes! The highest peak in Colorado, Mount Elbert towers above this tiny town, making it the perfect backdrop for a wedding.
How to elope at Twin Lakes
Choose your date – Best months for a Twin Lakes wedding
My favorite month for a Twin Lakes wedding is June, the average temperature is a wonderful 56 degrees and June has the least amount of average rainfall. The fall in Twin Lakes is also gorgeous, the fall foliage is beautiful. Since the town is at a higher elevation, you can expect the leaves to change early than in Denver or Boulder. Fall temperatures can range from 50 degrees to 30 degrees– just make sure you wear layers! Winter can be quite frigid and expect for the lake to be frozen!
Secure your ceremony location
When planning your Twin Lakes wedding, you’ll need to decide where exactly you want to have your ceremony and/or reception. If you’re looking for a more traditional wedding venue, you’ll need to venture a little further to Buena Vista.

The most popular way to stay in Twin Lakes is through renting an Airbnb, VRBO, or Homeaway. There are currently over 40 Airbnb listings in Twin Lakes. They range in price from $75/night to $650/night, you’re sure to find something that will fit your needs!
Reserve your photo permit
If you are wanting to have a photographer capture your Twin Lakes wedding, make sure to secure your permit before the big day! You will need to contact the forest service to reserve this, you can email them at: janine.l.prout@usda.gov
