Getting Ready
Getting ready at the Surf Hotel is a breeze since the majority of couples choose to stay on location in one of the gorgeous rooms or suites. Included in all wedding packages is a two night stay for the couple. There is also a discounted room block for your guests.
All the rooms at the Surf Hotel have stunning finishes and tons of natural light, perfect for getting ready portraits. I love the attached balconies which allow for beautiful photos at the beginning of the day.
Room pricing typically starts at $200-$300/night.
Ceremony
Ceremonies at the Surf Hotel can be held at 3 different ceremony sites– the Ivy Courtyard, the Beach, or the South Main Town Square. All ceremonies include a triangular wedding arbor, ceremony chairs, and sound system.
The photos below are held at the most popular site, the Ivy Courtyard. I love the chalet look in the background and rock walls surrounding the ceremony site.
If choosing a ceremony at the Ivy Courtyard, definitely consult your photographer on the ceremony time as the light can come through at an angle and make photos a little tricky. This ceremony was held at 4pm in November and lighting was nearly perfect.
Cocktail Hour
Cocktail hour is held on the balcony to the side of the reception ballroom and a flipped Ivy Courtyard. There is a wonderful outdoor fireplace as well as outdoor heaters so your guests are comfortable no matter the weather.
Reception
Receptions are held in the Ivy Ballroom a stunning 1,860 sq ft room with dark walls, chandeliers and beautiful french doors leading outdoors to the river.
The ballroom is available for use until 11pm and has a 150 person capacity.
Included in your rental are tables, chairs and linens, 5 hours of staffed event time, and a sound and light engineer to ensure your audio and lighting looks incredible.
Photo Locations
Portraits at Surf Hotel are SO fun. There are truly so many incredible backdrops, both indoors in the hotel and the surrounding grounds and town.
Outdoors you can venture just a few minutes down to to the river or around the small town of Buena Vista. Attached to the hotel is a gorgeous little courtyard with Aspen trees and rock walls. And indoors photographs beautifully with the floor to ceiling windows providing tons of natural light.
Why you should have a Surf Hotel Wedding
- The town of Buena Vista. Buena Vista is about a 2.5 hour drive from Denver and it is such a great place for a weekend getaway! There are tons of outdoor activities, restaurants and bars to explore. It is accessible enough that it’s not a huge pain to get to (aka you don’t have to take i70 to get to it) but still feels like you’ve gotten out of the city.
- The upscale feel. The Surf Hotel doesn’t feel like a traditional, cheesy hotel wedding venue. There are no awful carpets or decor, it feels very swanky and photographs lovely.
- The ability to get ready and stay on site. This is such an underrated perk! There is truly nothing better than getting ready on site. And the fact that you and your guests can party and then walk straight to the elevator at the end of the night, unbeatable!
- All the included features. From an included 2 night stay to an event coordinator, you are truly being taken care of at the Surf Hotel. The price is totally worth all the additional things included in their packages.
