Best time for engagement photos at Garden of the Gods

Garden of the Gods is always gorgeous! Since there is very little foliage this is one of my go-to spots when the rest of Colorado is a little barren (hello November through May)

As for sunrise vs. sunset it really depends on your preference, would you rather have more dramatic mountains or glow-y flattering sunset light? At sunrise the sun is shining directly on Pike’s Peak, which makes it show up better. Sunset the sun is going behind the mountains which means the light on your faces will be stunning and glow-y! Garden of the Gods requires a weekday session. Trust me on this one. Garden of the Gods is one of the most popular spots and parking is a nightmare. Going on a weekend is virtually impossible since some of the spots you’ll see have parking lots of only 5 cars.

Best locations within the park

There are so many amazing spots within the grounds! I always suggest meeting at one of the larger lots and then carpooling around the park to the more off the beaten path locations. Engagement Session Permit

Luckily Garden of the Gods is one of the few spots in Colorado that is completely free of permits and additional costs! However, there’s been talk of making it a permit required location– so let’s do our part and follow Leave No Trace principles so we can keep this spot free!
