The Dallas Arboretum is one of my favorite places to take engagement photos. The Arboretum is such a unique location in Dallas because it looks gorgeous all year long. The people in charge of the grounds are incredible, because even in the dead of winter it’s beautiful. They have 3 main attractions throughout the year, the Spring Tulips, Fall pumpkins, and winter 12 days of Christmas. My absolute favorite is the tulip season. I just love all the gorgeous pastel and vibrant colors. It makes for such a lush and unique photo spot.
I absolutely loved photographing Heather and Steve’s Dallas Arboretum engagement photos. Steve was from the UK and absolutely hilarious and Heather was so sweet. I had such a lovely morning walking around the Arboretum with them.
If you’re thinking of having Dallas Arboretum engagement photos done there’s a few things you should know.
- The Dallas Arboretum’s hours are from 9am-5pm.
- For most of the year the best light at the Arboretum is in the morning before 11am. Unless it’s winter (November-January) then 4pm-5pm is perfect! Luckily there is a good amount of shade, so if your photographer knows where to go you can make an afternoon session work. (But aim for those above times!)
- There is a $15 per person entry fee and $15 per car entry fee. You can save a little money by purchasing your tickets online. (Don’t forget your photographer!)
- The whole Arboretum is 66 acres! If there are specific spots you’ve seen online, make sure to tell your photographer so they know and can guide you to those locations within your allotted session time. Just keep in mind you might have a little bit of a walk!
- It can get quite busy, especially on weekends. I highly recommend visiting on a weekday when it is much slower. Otherwise there will be tons of visitors and photoshoots happening. You might have people in the back of your photos or have to wait for an in demand location.
