Congratulations! If you’re reading this it means you’re getting ready to graduate and looking to get some CU Boulder Graduation photos! If you’re looking for fun, candid and beautiful photos that capture this special time in your life– you’re in the right place. I’m a Denver Senior Photographer based out of Broomfield and I LOVE photographing CU Boulder senior portraits.
The world is your oyster when it comes to a location for your CU Boulder graduation photos. You can choose to have your pictures taken on campus or at a secondary location. For some sessions, we can even do multiple locations. (Like starting on campus and then finishing your session at a spot like Chautauqua nearby).
All my senior clients get access to my exclusive location guide with over 50 epic locations around the state. So whether you’re wanting an urban look or a mountain environment, I’ve got ya covered!
One of the most iconic Boulder locations for your CU senior photos is of course, Chautauqua Park with the Flatirons in the background. This location is absolutely stunning but can be incredibly busy if your session is close to graduation (usually the beginning of May). If you want to take your graduation photos at Chautauqua I recommend booking your session for a few months before graduation to ensure there’s not a million people in the background of your photos.
There are so many gorgeous buildings around campus. If you want to capture the last four years in its most authentic form, consider taking some photos by landmarks that were significant to you! Your favorite class, your most visited library. We can also stop by the more iconic backdrops like Norlin Library and Old Main.
Want to capture the Colorado Rockies in your senior photos? Consider trekking into the mountains for some epic senior photos. I have a full location guide of hidden gems, some just a 30 minute drive from Boulder!
Have something special in mind? Let’s explore! From Botanical Gardens to the murals of RiNo– there are so many incredible spots near Boulder for your senior photos. I can help you choose a spot or let me know if there’s some place sentimental that’ll capture your personality.
Lots of people often ask when is the best time to take photos- and 90% of the time my answer is golden hour! Golden hour is the hour or two before sunset and creates gorgeous, golden light. This light is incredibly flattering and what gives my images that nice warm hue. But depending on if you want to have your session on campus or another location (check out some of my favorite spots here), the best lighting might vary. But don’t worry, I’ll help you with all the planning and logistics leading up to your session.
These girls opted to do a group session for their senior photos. I love group sessions because it makes everyone feel so much more comfortable to have a buddy! In all group sessions I still make sure to get individuals of everyone! If you want to do a group session for your senior photos, just make sure you coordinate your outfits so you don’t clash. The easiest thing to wear is white. If you want more tips on what to wear for you upcoming senior session take a look at my senior photo outfit guide.
Want me to photograph your family on graduation day? Sounds great! I have tons of experience photographing families. We can either schedule this session before or after your graduation day or on the day of. Just keep in mind that Boulder’s graduation day (usually early May) will be quite busy on campus. However, that hasn’t stopped me from still photographing families and seniors on the big day!
I have a whole blog post about what to wear for your senior photos but here’s some inspiration to get ya thinking!
Bring an outfit change
I always recommend bringing one casual and one fancy outfit, that way you have some variety! But too many outfits can cut into your photo taking time and create a gallery that’s all over the place. So for an hour session, stick with two outfits!
Try on each outfit with your cap and gown
Each outfit will sit differently with your cap and gown. Some colors might clash with your sash colors. Try on each outfit to see which looks best. When in doubt, white is always a great choice!
Don’t be afraid to show off your personality
Whether that’s your favorite pair of shoes, the location you choose or a prop or activity to include in your session– showing off your personality will make your session feel authentic to you and capture this exciting time in your life!
