Cassidy & David
Rainy Mountain Wedding

Weddings

Cassidy and David’s wedding day at Della Terra! It is the very beginning of the wedding season and I already know this is going to be one of my favorite weddings of the year. This day was filled with so much love, family and friendship. Cassidy and David were present and intentional throughout the day, it was so unbelievably evident how in love these two are.

Some highlights of the day:

  • Cassidy being fed strawberries by one of her bridesmaids while getting ready
  • These two thriving despite the rain
  • David and his groomsmen playing the same card game they’ve played since kids (and using the same notebook!)
  • The fog rolling through the mountains and providing the perfect moody backdrop for the sweetest first look
  • Everyone piling into one car and being driven into Rocky Mountain for portraits
  • The rain miraculously letting up right as ceremony began
  • Cassidy and David’s incredible vows, sweet but also emotional
  • Moments with David’s grandpa and his brother
  • The most creative and sentimental dessert table

To Cassidy & David

Congrats you guys!!! So honored to have been a small part of y’alls day! You both are the absolute sweetest and it is so clear that you are both made for eachother. Thank you for being some welcoming and accommodating on your day. You both are truly such kind, thoughtful individuals and I’m so lucky to have met and photographed y’all! Can’t wait to see what’s next for you both! <3

The Story

How did y’all meet?

“We met through e-harmony. It was my (Cassidy’s) first week on the site while David was approaching a year. After some texts, we agreed to meet on June 23, 2021 at New Image Brewery in Arvada, CO. However, I’d like to add that I almost let him slip out of my fingers as I didn’t respond to some texts and it was only with his prompting via text that made our meeting possible. My first thought when I saw David standing outside the brewery was, “Oh, he’s tall and really cute.” His first thought about me was I was out of his league (which is so not true). The date started out with David acting a bit shy, but as we talked, we both grew more comfortable and the conversation was just so easy. A detail he remembers from our conversation was how I had skinny dipped before at a hot springs. From there, we saw each other constantly and as cheesy as it sounds, dating each other was so easy. We quickly grew close through our shared faith, dreams, and nerdy personalities. Some of our favorite dates involved running in the rain, eating homemade charcuterie boards, tasting different whiskeys, camping while David took pictures of the night sky, seeing plays, and having heart-to-heart talks while driving on mountain roads.”

The Proposal

“David proposed to me on July 23, 2022. I knew the proposal was coming so David had fun psyching me out a couple times by bending on his knee to tie his shoe. He wanted the proposal to be a genuine surprise to me, and it was. We were standing by Grand Lake taking photos together when he got down on one knee and asked me if I would give him the honor of becoming his wife. I was so surprised that I didn’t believe it was really happening until he pulled out the ring. Getting engaged in front of the Rockies was a very Colorado thing to do and it was very me.”

Honeymoon Plans

“We’re going to Slovenia where we will drink lots of wine, explore lakes and their cities, and do some cooking classes.”

What are you looking forward to most about being married?

“Being a team that goes through the highs and lows of life. We’re also really excited to finally live together.”

The Wedding Day

Getting Ready

Cassidy and David’s morning started out as many summer weddings in the mountains begin– with a morning shower. This year has been especially rainy, which I know causes a lot of stress for couples. However, Cassidy and David were in good spirits and ready to go outside and into Rocky Mountain rain or shine.

Due to all the rain we’ve been getting, everything has been incredibly lush and green. When I arrived to Della Terra I was greeted by the most beautiful foliage, the rain really does have it’s perks.

I arrived as Cassidy was getting ready, so I started on some detail photos and then captured candids of her and all her favorite people hanging out. David got to be photographed by my Second Photographer, Catherine. I love the photos of him and his friends playing cards before his first look.

First Look

Cassidy and David knew they wanted to do a First Look, Cassidy’s one request was making sure the spot was private and surrounded by nature, which at Della Terra are all incredibly easy things to accommodate! I just loved the fog rolling in on the mountains behind them. It really felt like I was photographing in Oregon and not Colorado.

Portraits in Rocky Mountain National Park

Another thing the couple knew they wanted were photos in RMNP. And how could you blame them?? It is so stunning there, I really pinch myself every time I get the honor to photograph there. We all piled into David’s car and Cassidy’s Maid of Honor was kind enough to drive us into the park. We drove a short 5 minutes from the venue to one of my favorite spots for portraits. These two were having a blast being photographed in the rain, we started with umbrellas but quickly abandoned them a few minutes in.

Ceremony

Time for ceremony!!! This was such a special ceremony. They really tailored everything to them. They had their Pastor officiate, which was so wonderful because he truly knew them as a couple. Cassidy chose to walk down the aisle unescorted and then David met her halfway, which I thought was such a special moment. The couple also read their own vows which were beautiful, heartfelt and perfectly them. After being pronounced husband and wife we did a petal toss, which is such a great way to end a perfect ceremony.

Wedding Party & Family Photos

After ceremony, marriage license signing and petal toss, we did family photos and wedding party. This was such a fun group. One of my favorite photos is Cassidy’s bridesmaids holding David up for a photo. I really love when groups have fun during photos and show of their personalities.

Couples Photos

Before entering cocktail hour, we did a few more photos around the grounds. I love that these two wanted to make time for portraits but also to just be present and enjoy each other’s company away from the big group.

Reception

Time for the party! After an absolutely epic entrance, these two sat down for a much deserved dinner. We had some amazing toasts, including a joint toast by all three of David’s groomsmen and let me tell you, joint toasts are difficult and these three pulled it off, well done gents. After toasts and special dancing it was time for the party!

Open Dancing

I was only with the couple for open dancing for about 15 minutes, but I could tell these two were going to have fun on the dance floor. Their group was awesome and even though I wasn’t there for long I still got some great photos thanks to the awesome energy of the couple and their guests.

And then after almost 11 full hours of photography, it was time to call it a night and make the drive back home. Saying bye to this couple truly felt like saying bye to friends. It was such an honor to photograph their day and I’m so lucky to have been a part of it!
